Mother and child divided
The sirens can't silence the storm
Shelter by wing does the bird dare to sing out
Her feeling of coming alarm

Baby still clutches on tight
Daddy can't put up the fight
Crowds gather near as the smoke starts to clear
While they struggle to get through this night

But why...
Must we leave our home behind
But why...
Do we have to struggle to survive

And I know
That it's hard
To face the oncoming storm
And I won't
Let you go
To the ones that would do us harm

Reaction is swift and complete
The silence rings out through the street
And the emptiness fills every brick in this town
While the loneliness gathers around

A concrete coffin draws closed
On disaster that still on our minds
And the half-life of fear makes the silence so clear
That it drowns out the sound of time

But why...
Must we leave our work behind
But why...
Do we have to struggle to survive

And I know
That it's hard
To race the oncoming storm
And I won't
Let you drown
In the sound of screaming alarms
And I know
We'll pull through
And life will thrive here again
And I'll stay
In this town
To face my fate here with you

A shell of a house that's no longer a home
A long-rusted fence to protect it from none
Can you see?
It's not what's meant to be
A wind-swept path that's no longer a street
A barren desert where people would meet
Can you see?
It's not what's meant to be
A playground that no longer sees the smile of a child
A school yard that's been run over by the wild
Can you see?
It's not what's meant to be
A lonely old man with a tear in his eye
A ragged old statue that points to the sky
Can you see?
It's not what's meant to be

We're a world away
Where our children play
But that day
We saw coming
It swept us away

- Guitar solo

And I know
That it's hard
To face the oncoming storm
And I won't
Let you go
We'll face this world on our own
And I know
In my soul
That nature will reclaim its prize
And I hope
That I'll know
That my mistake had a price

Mother and child divided
The sirens can't silence the storm
Shelter by wing does the bird dare to sing out
Her feeling of coming alarm

Picture yourself in northern Ukraine, late April 1986. Your Soviet government is experimenting with economic measures and political upheavals designed to free up information, expression, and tolerance. Experimentation with new technologies is commonplace. You're home town is prospering due to the recently constructed Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

Then, something goes wrong and you're forced to evacuate.

This song has a couple of different perspectives. The first couple stanzas come from the point of view of the people of the neighbouring town of Pripyat, as they're being forced out of their homes by disaster. The second verse follows more of a description of what was done to "fix" the problem.

For the music, I'm going to rely on F sharp minor (an odd key to play on guitar). The tune will be in 6/8 time, a mostly-clean guitar-driven ballad. I want the ending to be epic and grand. This is to be the closing track on "Glass Cicada".

Comment cause I wrote the music for it now. This is just the basic chord outline for anyone that wants to strum it. Vertical lines represent bar lines, vaguely.

Verse chords: | F#m | E | D / C#m | Bm / F#m |

Pre-chorus chords: | E | D | C#m | Bm |

Chorus chords: | D | C# | A | F#m / G#m |

(then verse then pre-chorus then chorus again)

Bridge chords: | F#m | A | E / Bm | F#m |

Pre-solo chords: | D | C# | C | B | A# | A |

Solo chords: | A | F#m | Bm | E | (then) | F#m | A | E / Bm | F#m |

(then chorus then verse to end)

Looking forward to listening when you put the whole thing together :)

That's really good. I enjoyed reading it a lot, and started getting into it as I went through the verses, which rolled off the tongue as I read them aloud, in a very easy, very appealing song-like manner. The subject matter is also touching.

I look forward to designing the ablum cover! In fact, I just can't wait to see (and hear) the album! :D

Are you also looking forward to... singing it?

And it's still gonna take a while. I mean, I've only got a few songs written, and only one recorded...

I can try singing again, yes. I don't think I did that bad last time, and THAT was trying to imitate a COMPUTER, so I think I'll be able to handle singing like a human being.

:iconlauscho:
The only problem might be how POWERFUL the chorus is. It's begging for some high shit.

Oh, check your PMs on Lunar Cafe. SHIT'S BEEN SENT TO YOU.
