Really. Really. Blows.
BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS.
I am trying to compose two pieces of music right now. First is possibly the heaviest and most musically complex piece I've ever written. It contains an interesting polymeter (5/8+5/8+5/8+5/8+4/8 over 6/8), uses middle eastern modes mixed with whole tone scales, and then some really freakin' huge jazz chords (love those ninths and elevenths and stuff XD), followed by another polymetric power chord riff topped with some spooky sounding minor second diads. Suffice it to say, pretty awesome. Now, my problem is that I have NO IDEA where to take it. It's going to be an instrumental, so I know there has to be a solo section. But I have no idea how to transition from the last riff I have to the solo. And the structure is difficult to figure out. Plus, I don't want the whole thing to sound same-y.
The second song I am working on is a more standard piece. I don't have music written for it yet (but I know it'll likely be in G minor and 6/8 time), but I know exactly what I want from the lyrics. I even have a title for it: "Pripyat". For those who don't know, Pripyat is the city built especially for those working at the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant, which had an explosion and released radioactive material into the environment back in 1986. It is considered to be one of the biggest industrial and environmental accidents of all time. I want the song to be from the point of view of those directly affected by the incident. A mother and child being evacuated, someone being left behind to die (or watching that someone) in the inferno at the plant itself, the brave people who helped to clean up the mess and fix things... But my problem is figuring out how to word it. I got stuck on the first line!
So yeah. Writer's block sucks. Even worse when you KNOW exactly what you want to accomplish but JUST CAN'T DO IT
In other news I have discovered jazz/fusion guitar legend Allan Holdsworth. He is so freakin' SMOOTH. I might just have to give up guitar.

(On a sidenote - I'd like to visit Pripyat. It's like some pilgrimage. And an opportunity to take (hopefully) strong pictures. The sooner the better. It's not even that far from here.)
